Product details

The ASI 662 offers very high resolution and is therefore perfect for moon and planet photography. However, EAA (Electronically Assisted Astronomy) and DeepSky astrophotography are also possible with this uncooled camera. This CMOS camera is equipped with a modern 1/2.8″ sensor with 1920*1080 pixels. In addition to modern back-illumination technology, the IMX662 sensor offers an extremely smooth image without amplifier glow (amp glow) and also impresses with its high resolution (2.9µm pixels) at a high frame rate.

The ZWO ASI 662 is primarily used for detailed planetary photography and high-resolution images of the moon’s surface, solar photography (always with a suitable filter!), images of compact, brighter nebulae (planetary nebulae) and globular clusters. Exposure times of up to 2000 seconds are possible.
This camera model can also be used very well for infrared photography (less seeing influence) or as an autoguider.

The high resolution, combined with a high frame rate of 108 fps (RAW8 format), also enables real-time observations of planets and details on the Sun and Moon. The built-in clear glass filter prevents dust from entering the sensor. With the right selection of contrast filters, nebulae filters, IR pass filters or UV/IR blocking filters, you have full control over which light falls on the sensor.

Mono or Color?

Mono:

  • Capable of advanced techniques (LRGB, narrowband)
  • Additional applications (spectrometry, photometry)

Color:

  • Convenient for RGB imaging
  • No need for expensive filters and filter wheels

Both types of camera are capable of creating stunning astroimages, we can only recommend you pick the one that suits you best!

The ASI662MM is equipped with the Sony-IMX662 rolling shutter CMOS sensor. Boasting a 1/2.8” frame size combined with a 2.9μm pixel size, it features 2.07 million pixels (1920×1080).

It possesses both high sensitivity and low read noise characteristics. In high-speed mode, it can output 107.6 frames per second, providing reliable support for planetary observation.

Four Unmissable Advantages

Large full well capacity, not easy to overexpose

The ASI662 is fitted with a Sony IMX662 sensor with the latest technology.

Compared to the previous generation of sensors, it has very low readout noise and a huge full well capacity. This helps effectively avoid overexposure issues and also allows longer exposures.

The camera performs excellently in low-light conditions, capturing clear images of celestial objects.

256MB DDR3 & USB 3.0

The camera has a USB 3.0 transmission interface and a built-in 256MB DDR3 cache to ensure stable and secure data transmission.

No Amp Glow

The ASI662 exhibits zero amp glow, no matter how long the exposure and how high the gain value is. Since it is implemented directly at the hardware level, it does not require software control.

Camera Curve

The Readout noise includes pixel noise, circuit noise, and ADC quantisation noise. The lower the readout noise, the better. As can be seen, the readout noise of the ASl662 is very low compared to a CCD camera. The built-in HCG mode can effectively reduce the readout noise at high gain and enable the camera to maintain the same high dynamic range as at low gain.

When the gain is 252, the HCG mode is automatically turned on, and the dynamic range is extended to 11 stops.
