Player One Apollo-428M MAX-P camera / filter wheel 8×1.25 / OAG MINI set
The Player One Apollo-428M MAX Pro cooled camera is developed by Player One Astronomy, a real cooled camera for solar imaging. The Apollo-M MAX Pro camera uses the Sony IMX428 1.1” monochrome sensor. With a pixel size of 4.5um, it provides a pit depth of 25.3Ke with a total of 7.1MP (the resolution is 3216*2208), and the diagonal is 17.5mm.
STARVIS technology
The Apollo-M MAX Pro (IMX428) camera is based on Sony’s Pregius 3rd generation technology, a global shutter technology used in CMOS image sensors.
Format
The Apollo-428M MAX Pro camera has a 1.1″ size, which is quite large for imaging.
Pixel size
The pixel size of 4.5um is half of the IMX432 camera, which means it has 4x resolution than the classic Apollo-M MAX camera.
Interesting BIN mode
As we know, Apollo 428M MAX Pro has 4.5um pixel size, half of Apollo-M MAX. If we use bin2, it will be more like Apollo-M MAX, and 3-bin combination mode will have some advantages:
MONO8 Hardware BIN2 Mode: Full up to 4x(100Ke), 10bit ADC, FPS up to 135FPS.
MONO16 Hardware BIN2 Mode: Full up to 4x(100Ke), 12bit ADC, FPS up to 109FPS.
MONO16 Software BIN2 Mode (Sum Mode): Full up to 4x(100Ke), Bit Depth up to 14bit, FPS remains at 51FPS.
Cutting-edge Design
The Apollo 428M MAX Pro cooled camera with the same design as the Ares cooled series, but with a little difference! With a round body, gold and black color scheme, and use of carbon fiber to keep the weight low and give it a cutting-edge appearance. We also integrated the sensor tilt plate and anti-dew circuit board. This series design makes the camera not only light and cool, but also functional!
Front 3P and Rear 4P tilt plate
When shooting deep sky objects, the sensor tilt plate can be used to adjust the angle of the sensor tilt to make the stars in the corners more rounded. The Ares camera provides both a front and rear tilt plate for all usage scenarios.
The front 3P tilt plate is the standard part of the camera; we believe most users have experience with it. It works well in many basic scenarios.
The rear 4P tilt plate is an alternative part for the camera, necessary when using filter wheel/filter drawer and OAG with fixed angle. It is also useful for RASA users to adjust the sensor tilt.
The built-in high-quality foam seal can block the light from the sides without any side leakage.
Carbon fiber and lightweight
The Apollo-428M MAX Pro uses carbon fiber in the camera body and is optimized for weight reduction in its structural design. The camera weighs only 420 grams, making it one of the lightest models on the market.
Deep Cooling
Player One cooled camera series uses 2-phase TEC cooling system. After improving the structural design to send the heat back to the camera chamber, the Delta-T of the camera can reach 35-40℃.
Anti-Dew Heating Element
In the design of lightweight cooled cameras, Player One still strives for perfection, all necessary functions must be present, especially the anti-dew system, which is often ignored in many small cooled cameras.
Amp-Glow
Apollo 428M MAX Pro is not a camera without amp-glow, but the amp-glow is very smooth, we think it will be easier to be calibrated. In solar imaging it will not be a problem at all.
512MB DDR3 cache
As an improvement, the DDR3 cache in cooled cameras has been increased to 512MB. It helps stabilize and secure data transmission, effectively avoids dropped frames and greatly reduces readout noise.
With the DDR3 cache, the camera no longer has high requirements for computing needs, it will still have excellent performance even if it is connected to a USB 2.0 port.
Type-C Data Port and Power Port
On the back of the cooled camera there are 2 Type-C data ports and a 12V DC 5.5×2.1mm power port.
Main data port supports USB3.0 protocol; the camera can run 51fps in RAW8(10bit) mode and 27fps in RAW16(12bit). The Type-C port is easier to plug in when mounting the imaging equipment at night.
When recording images, the actual writing speed is affected by the writing speed of the hard drive itself. If the writing speed of the hard drive is slow, the recording may not reach the theoretical speed. It is recommended to use a high-quality solid-state drive to record data, so as to fully utilize the camera’s performance.
The camera has a 12V DC5.5*2.1mm port to supply enough power to the TEC cooling system. If you don’t need to turn on the cooling, you only need to connect the main Type-C port, then the camera will work as a non-cooled camera.
