Telescopes and mounts for a sophisticated introduction to astronomy
The EQ-5 from the Skywatcher EQ series is one of the largest and most stable equatorial mounts. It reliably carries optics weighing up to 10 kilograms without shaking. The mount is an ideal basis for observing and for the first astrophotographs for the more experienced beginner. Ball-bearing axes and worm gears allow objects to be precisely manually tracked. For even more control, the EQ-5 can be retrofitted with a GoTo motor set or an electronic polar finder.
This high-quality Maksutov telescope provides an ideal basis for both planetary and DSO observing.
Its diameter makes it a ‘fast’ yet portable instrument. The Maksutov-Cassegrain system allows a long focal length to be combined with a relatively short OTA length. The central obstruction in the optics is minimal as the small secondary mirror has been directly vacuum deposited onto the meniscus lens. The meniscus lens gives very good contrast – for example ideal for planetary observing. The lens corrects for spherical aberration and its shape reduces chromatic aberration to a minimum. It comes supplied with a mounting plate.
The NEQ-5 Pro GoTo mount:
This mount is a further development of the EQ-5 Pro in a white design. It provides a solid platform for most medium-sized telescopes and is excellent for exploring the night sky. The polar elevation at the observing site can be set using the fine scale provided and adjusted perfectly by using two screws. A polar finder can be retrofitted. Fully equipped with motors in both axes and a SynScan hand control box to give you a complete GoTo mount: the NEQ-5 is suitable not only for visual observing, but also for getting started in astrophotography. With a little practice, you will soon be able to produce successful images of galaxies and nebulae.
